Episode 145: Robin Young on How to Behave Wealthy

Episode 145: Robin Young on How to Behave Wealthy

In my latest episode of Beyond the Business Suit, I have a conversation with Robin Young. If you've been listening to Beyond the Business Suit at least since the beginning of this year you may have heard my interviews with two women who are focused on mindset and wealth:  Patrice Washington, America's Money Maven and the host of the Redefining Wealth podcast as well as Dr. Venus Opal Reese who wrote the book, Black Woman Millionaire. Well today we're going to get back into that money and mindset conversation with Robin Young. Robin is the founder of Behaving Wealthy and she has a WEALTH (no pun intended) of knowledge to share with us about how we think about money. During her career she has managed over a BILLION dollars in assets for over 500 millionaires. And no, she didn't come from from wealth herself.

Heard in this episode:

  • How Robin got into wealth management
  • What Robin has learned about wealth from working with over 500 millionaires and hundreds of other investors
  • The difference between income earners and wealthy people
  • The one word that helped her start her company Behaving Wealthy
  • The five milestones you have to master in order to behave wealthy.

Robin's Bio

Robin A. Young, a Certified Financial Plannerä, managed a billion dollars for over 500 millionaires (her average client had a minimum of $2 million in investment assets). During her 18-year tenure of working with high net worth individuals, she cracked the wealth code:

The only difference between rich and broke is how you behave.

Robin is committed to sharing with you 18 years of insider information of what you really need to know, believe, and do.” Think of her as your “No Conflict-of-Interest” Insider.

Robin founded, Behaving Wealthy, as a resource just for you. There is so much information available to you but what do you do with all of it. Behaving Wealthy has culled all that financial information into a simple, yet defined approach for busy people like you to easily follow for BIG results.

When Robin realized that the vast majority of overachievers needed a place to get schooled on money so that they could achieve the freedom to afford their ultimate lifestyles NOW and for the rest of their lives – NO MATTER WHAT. Hence, Behaving Wealthy was born.

National media such as CBS and Black Enterprise TV, The New York Times, About.com, Black Enterprise, Essence, Ebony, The Michael Eric Dyson Show, and Beauty & The Bull have featured Robin’s message. Robin speaks to smart people about their relationship with money on many national stages from Black Enterprise’s Women In Power Conference to sharing the stage with speaking veterans Larry Winget and Suzanne Evans.

Robin holds the following certifications: Accredited Asset Management Specialist (2002), Certified Financial Planner designation (2003), Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor (2007), and Level 1 Chartered Financial Analyst exam (2010).

Successful earners are not keeping enough. In fact, most people only earn enough to get by…not enough to live the life they REALLY want without worries; not enough to increase their savings and retirement accounts; and not enough to decrease their debts. Too many successful income earners are on the rat race.

Robin A. Young, Certified Financial Planner, schools you on how to know enough, earn enough, keep enough, grow enough, and give enough.

Robin’s Behaving Wealthy Method shows you how to stop worrying about money once and for all. Robin’s clients have a great relationship with money that allows them to focus on what they can control and what they really want.

Quotables

“We're on a parallel journey of worth and wealth and if you have a wealth problem, you have a worth problem. All you have to do to close your freedom gap…is just to take baby steps.”

“The one word that made me start behaving wealthy…is the word ‘disconnect' because there was a disconnect between success and satisfaction. Income and wealth. Disconnect between income and freedom.”
“I assumed that if you have income or you have success, then of course, you'll have freedom and independence and literally wealth.”

The Final Five

1. Three words she would use to describe her personal brand: courageous, thoughtful, powerful.
2. One book that has significantly impacted her personally or professionally: Psycho-Cybernetics by Maxwell Maltz
3. If she could have brunch with three people dead or alive, she would select: Tom Brady, Hillary Clinton, her grandmother
4. The best advice she's ever received: when her mind is quiet, she hears God's voice and that always works out for her.
5. Her favorite “power outfit”: she works out a lot, so her power outfit is workout clothes. Exercise is her way to push herself which enables her to push herself in her business.
